Seemingly contractually obligated prequel, with little to offer, other than a few jump-scares accompanied by loud noises.
Characters (lead girl's friends and would-be boyfriend, the old black woman) appear and inexplicably disappear throughout, which made me wonder why they were even there, as girl is haunted, terrorised, and possessed while confined in her apartment after being hit by a car, in one of the film's biggest surprises. (What consequences the driver faced were not mentioned) Her broken legs sustained in the accident seemed to owe more to Hitchcock, rather than advancing the plot. She finds herself the target of someone called The Man Who Can't Breathe (Oh, please) who wants to take her soul to something melodramatically called "The Further".
Routine possession horror has its moments, like when the demon is switching off the lights, and blocking out all ambient light in her room, but too much of the film is given to silence-followed-by-a-loud-noise shocks, which won't hold up to repeated viewings, and probably won't hold up well at all when the film is released on DVD.
